Comparing Hair Transplantation Methods
Hair transplant procedure provides natural looking results that nobody should be able to tell if one has had procedure done. Hair transplant physicians use different techniques to extract and transplant large number of hair grafts. Two primary methods for hair transplantation are FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation).
What is FUE?
Follicular unit extraction in another words FUE is a type of hair transplant surgery that involves extracting each hair graft from donor region one by one using a tool. The individual hair grafts are then implanted in the bald or thinning area.
What is FUT?
Follicular unit transplantation or FUT operation involves taking out a small strip of tissue from the donor area. Hair follicles are harvested from the strip and then transplanted to the bald or thining areas. In Follicular Unit Transplantation, a long and thin sliver of tissue removed from the donor area as a strip.
What Is The Difference Between FUE and FUT?
Scar is one of the most important factor in difference between two methods. In FUE, patient may have no scar or 0.6 mm diameter small scars only, in FUT, patient may have a linear scar in donor area. FUE is also useful in repairing donor scars.
Donor area heals faster in FUE.
After FUE, patients may have little or no pain\/discomfort due to donor area harvesting method. After FUT, some pain and tightness in the donor area might occur.
FUE has become the procedure of choice by patients worldwide and FUT procedure is now outdated for many clinics. The main factors that patients and surgeons prefer FUE nowadays, are stated above as scarring, post-operation comfort and healing time.
